In today’s modern dating world, the office is one the new hot spots to meet potential mates. In some ways, it makes a lot of sense because someone you work with is likely to have many of the same interests as you. Some companies even encourage interoffice dating, but, even so, there are some lines that can’t be crossed and some professional- personal life boundaries to keep in mind. You want to keep your job – and your boyfriend – so keep it professional and separate.
Play it Safe There aren’t that many work environments like the show “The Office” where Pam and Jim openly date and can flirt and hang out at work. While you have the luxury of seeing your mate at work, it is best to play it safe and keep your personal life mostly outside of the office. Sure, you of course eat lunch together and hang out when you can, but you keep it adult and you know that the work environment is separate. You both have a reputation to protect and want to make a good impression on your coworkers. Be thankful that you can spend more time together, but be appropriate in the workplace.
Keep Some Things Quiet When you are dating someone from the office, you don’t want to be the subject of any inter-office gossip or the originator of any gossip. You don’t want your dating life to become the topic of conversation around the office. This will negatively affect your relationship and possibly your job. So, the best advice is to keep your personal comments to a minimum and stay professional. It’s probably alright to have a couple of close friends at the office that you might share details about your inter-office relationship, but it is best not to broadcast any details that could lead to damaging gossip among co-workers.
Stay Professional It goes without saying that even when you are at work social function it’s still a safer route to keep it professional. You know there is a time and place for things and public displays of affection are probably not a good idea. By maintaining a sense of professionalism, if it unfortunately doesn’t work out, you can still be amicable in the office and not let it affect your work. The office can be a great place to find a mate, but you have to maintain your boundaries for the sake of both of your careers. But, it’s been done successfully and as detailed, it can be done successfully.
